Matuka Lodge is set in secluded surroundings only 3.5 kilometres from the lifestyle town of Twizel, gateway to Mount Cook National Park. We’re conveniently placed on the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail route and, by road, almost exactly half way between Christchurch and Queenstown.
With so much to appreciate at Matuka Lodge, you’ll be grateful that you’ve booked more than just a night. If you choose to explore on your own, the World Heritage listed Mount Cook National Park and Sir Edmond Hillary Centre are both within an hour’s drive, Lake Pukaki which is described as “a shimmering blue jewel set into a grand alpine playground” is just a 10-minute drive away.
Your hosts will advise you on the many local activities available and will happily make bookings on your behalf. These include Lord of the Rings tours, helicopter or bi-plane flights, observatory tours, hot pools and spa experiences, fishing and the Alps2Ocean Cycle Trail. With outstanding local knowledge your hosts can also recommend which of the local restaurants will best serve your needs.
